Behind the Scenes / Handcrafting Roll-On Perfume Oils 

This week, several handcrafted perfume oil blends are being carefully prepared and bottled in small batches, including Rose of the Hollow, Midnight Anointing, Cashmere & Amber, and Sacred Forest.

Each blend begins by combining the essential oils first, allowing the individual notes time to mingle and develop together before the jojoba oil is added. Watching a scent slowly evolve throughout the blending process is always one of the most fascinating parts of creating perfume oils, as each combination gradually settles into its own unique scent profile.

The process itself is slow, thoughtful, and deeply creative; measuring oils, adjusting balance, and layering botanical notes to create blends that feel soft, grounding, warm, atmospheric, or comforting in their own distinct way. From floral undertones and cozy amber notes to rich woods and earthy elements, each perfume is crafted with intention and attention to detail from start to finish.

Behind The Scenes / Infused Oils

🌿 One of my favorite parts of making salves is starting with infused oils made from plants I forage myself. It's not as simple as just tossing plants in oil, there's a process to it. I gather things like plantain, calendula, and purple dead nettle, let them dry so there's no extra moisture to cause mold, then infuse them slowly into oil over a few weeks, letting the oil sit with the plant material so it can draw out the beneficial properties, or sometimes with gentle heat to speed things along.

As the plant material sits in the oil, compounds like flavonoids, tannins, mucilage, and various plant waxes and resins slowly transfer out of the plant and into the oil, giving it those beneficial properties.

Once the oil has taken on all that plant goodness, I strain it out and that infused oil becomes the base for the salves you see in my shop. It's a slower way of doing things, but there's something really satisfying about knowing a salve started with a plant I picked myself. 💛
